Amazon followers are people that Amazon will automatically email whenever you release new books. These are usually people who have the privilege of getting to know about your new book title.

Requirements to price match your book on Amazon KDP

This post will show you the requirements to price match your book on Amazon KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing). We have asked Amazon to price-match our books on many occasions.

What is a book price match on Amazon KDP?

Book price match on Amazon KDP is a request from authors to Amazon support to change their books’ prices on Amazon KDP to the same price it’s sold on another store online. Usually, the request is always done when an author wants his or her books to be sold for free on Amazon.

Amazon, naturally does not allow authors to list their books as free during publication. Authors can not also change the price of their books to free even after publication. So the only way to have your books listed as free or $0 on Amazon KDP is to go the way of price matching your book.

Requirements to price match your book on Amazon KDP: Step-by-step guide

This is the step-by-step guide to price match your book on Amazon KDP:

Store for price matching in the same location

Ensure that the website selling a lower-priced version of your book is located in the same country (or region) as the Kindle Store where you want your book to be price matched.

For example, if you want your book to be price matched for free in the Amazon Kindle store in the US or UK, then the book must be published for free in another store located in the US or UK.

Book not enrolled in KDP select

The book must not be enrolled in KDP Select. Read about the Amazon Kindle Select program here. Your book must not be enrolled in this program if you want the book to be price matched.

The same book’s metadata

You must ensure that the book’s metadata (title, author name, language, cover image, and page numbers) should match between the Kindle Store and the competing website.

Request for a price match

If you are requesting a price match for a book or multiple books from Amazon support, you are required to include all of them in one email, using the template shown below. If your book is available on more than one website, you should also include all the links as well.

Please find below, Amazon’s recommendation and email format to send a request for your book’s price match: (You are to replace each item with the correct name and link).

Select type of request: [Add or Remove Price Match]

1. ASIN / Kindle Store: .COM, UK, DE, etc. / Current competitor region link(s) / Current competitor price

2. ASIN / Kindle Store: .COM, UK, DE, etc. / Current competitor region link(s) / Current competitor price

Relevance of the Amazon author central link

Do you want to know the relevance of the Amazon author central link? This post has you covered.

Why are we talking about relevance of the Amazon author central link?

The reason why I am talking about the relevance of the Amazon author central link today on this blog is as result of my experience and interactions with a large percentage of the authors our Publishing organization, Zarepath Publishing has helped to self-publish their books on Amazon over the years.

We have offered this service to a lot of authors in my country. We have helped them to achieve their long-term dream of becoming published authors and to have their books listed on the most popular store online – the Amazon store.

If you want this service, you can contact Zarepath Publishing now.

Let me show you one of the interactions with one of the authors on this issue of having an Amazon author central link in their published books. This should set the tone for the remaining contents in this post.

After receiving his manuscript and checking it to see what we can do to get it ready for publishing on Amazon, I replied this way:

I just checked your doc. Well formatted. Though the link to your Amazon author central can be included at the beginning or at the of the book

Though your other books were listed and your website listed. Your Amazon author central link should be included at the end of the list of books.

An Amazon author central account is a free account that Amazon authors must set up where readers can find all others books by the author on Amazon.

It makes it easier for them to buy books directly from the author on Amazon since they are already used to buying on Amazon.

This is a good way to sell other books you have to readers of your books.

What you have above has always been the same message we pass across to most authors who don’t see any reason why they have to include this link in their books.

What is Amazon Author Central?

Relevance of Amazon author central link (a summary)

The following are the relevance of Amazon author central link:

How to publish public domain books on Amazon KDP

How to publish public domain books on Amazon: Is it necessary?

The question is: Is it necessary to publish public domain books on Amazon?

Well, there is no simple answer to that question. The truth is that Amazon allows anyone to publish public domain books on its platform.

This should be good news. Right? Well, you must be careful. You must ensure the books you are publishing are actually in the public domain.

 Using public domain books

Publishing public domain books is another way you can produce ebooks in any niche of your choice especially on. It was a great feeling in our organization when we discovered that Amazon actually allows authors to publish public domain books on their platforms legally.

In our publishing company, we recently started exploiting this opportunity in order to expand our digital portfolio and also to increase profits. Just before I show you the strategy we are employing to get this done in our organization, let me first tell you what public domain books are.

Gain access to our online course on how I sell ebooks on Amazon and other self-publishing resources in our resources page.

What are public domain books?

The term “public domain” refers to creative materials that are not protected by intellectual property laws such as copyright, trademark, or patent laws. The public owns these works, not an individual author or artist. Anyone can use a public domain work without obtaining permission, but no one can ever own it.

When do books enter the public domain?

As of the year 2021, any book published before 1926 is yours to read for free and also use without permission. However, any book published after the year 1963 is still definitely in copyright.

Examples of public domain websites

The following are examples of public domain websites where you can find public domain books:

http://www.gutenberg.org/ (This is perhaps the most popular public domain website online)

https://www.hathitrust.org/

https://archive.org/

https://standardebooks.org/

Strategies we follow in our organization to publish public domain books on Amazon

The following is the process we follow in our organization to publish and profit from public domain materials on Amazon:

Carry out your researches

You should carry out researches to discover hot niche areas or evergreen niches.

Visit project gutenberg

Visit https://www.gutenberg.org/ .

When you get to this website, you have these different options that you can use to obtain a relevant book according to the researches you carried out.

You can use the ‘Quick search box. Search for a main keyword representing the book you want.

You can also use the ‘Search and Browse drop down arrow head. When you use this option, you will be taken to the next page.

This page will give you the opportunity to obtain a relevant book without wasting so much time. You can check out the following categories on this page to obtain relevant books that you can publish:

I will leave you to explore all the possibilities on this page. You will become more effective with frequent use of the tools on this page. In case you get stuck, you can use the help button to the far right of the page.

Requirements to publish public domain books on Amazon

Amazon is magnanimous enough to allow authors publish public domain books on their platforms. You can’t really get that with a lot of the other publish platforms online. However, just because Amazon gives you the golden opportunity to publish these materials on her platforms does not mean you have to just pick up the ebooks and upload them on Amazon.

Amazon has strict requirements you must follow to publish and sell public domain books on her platform. Apart from the general requirements about copyrights that I shared with you above, these are the requirements (according to Amazon) for you to publish and sell public domain books on Amazon:

“Our program allows the selling of content that is in the public domain. However, we may ask you to provide proof that the content you submitted is in the public domain. We may refuse public domain content that’s already available through our program or other retail sites. To provide a better customer experience, we don’t publish undifferentiated versions of public domain titles if a free version is available in our store. Differentiated works are unique. They meet one or more of these requirements:

What are the formatting requirements for Amazon KDP?

The guys at KindlePreneur did a good job on this topic and I would love them to continue from here:

As always, the main goal with formatting should be this: create a pleasant reading experience for your reader.

Furthermore, it’s also a pain to get an email back from Amazon, letting you know your book was rejected on a technical issue of margins, file format, or something else.

So, it’s important to know what Amazon is doing and what other vendors require as well (because they often differ).

To that end, here are a few ever-changing areas that every author should be familiar with:

  1. Ebook files and book file types
  2. The best formatting software and how to use them (this one is particularly important)
  3. The nature of front and back matter in your book
  4. Print formatting: including margins, bleeds, headers, fonts, page numbers, and more
  5. Trim sizes and their uses
